Jim Deghand
is a spinner, dyer and weaver of 34 years experience, who
lives and works at his bush property in Jackey's Marsh, Tasmania.
He is represented in public and private collections, including
the National Gallery in Canberra and the Queen Victoria Museum
and Art Gallery of Tasmania.
Jim writes: "I spin, plant dye, and weave, mainly
wool, some mohair and some silk. I weave rugs, blankets, ponchos
and tapestries"
Jim’s
work was featured recently at the renowned Deloraine Craft
Fair. All of the processes that Jim uses in his work are carried
out by hand, hence each work represents a huge amount of invested
time and thought.
James will be accompanied by Jennifer Leis. Jennifer will
be supporting Jim, enabling him to concentrate on his weaving
and the informal teaching which will occur. Jen is herself,
a recognised textile artist, weaver, spinner and natural dyer.
A selection of her work will be showcased, and she will be
available to discuss with the public any questions they may
have.
